| Elysian
Fields is primarily a love-rock duo from New York, formed by
songwriters Jennifer Charles and Oren Bloedow. Elysian Fields take their
name from a place in Greek mythology where the heroes and poets go when
they die, it's a paradise in the afterlife. This exclusive performance
featured Jennifer Charles [Vocals], Oren Bloedow [Guitar], Thomas Bartlett
[Piano, Keyboards, Xylophone, Electronics], Shahzad Ismaily [Bass] and
Roberto Rodriguez [Drums].
Elysian Fields played to a respectful audience at The
Tonic - one of the world's best venues for avant-garde, creative and
experimental music. They opened with Pulp's "This Is Hardcore",
a beautiful cover that set the tone for the entire performance. Jennifer
Charles' exquisite voice sang emotional lyrics that were at times, combined
with haunting harmonies from guitarist Oren Bloedow. Another treat was
hearing their cover of "Lifeboat" by Lovage. The perfect marriage
was consecrated between tickling keys and tender vocals. Roberto Rodriguez's
delicate drumming had a tranquil rhythm that was complimented by Shahzad
Ismaily's mood-felt performance on bass. Elysian Fields also performed
freshly cut songs from their latest album: Dreams That Breathe Your Name.
New material had stronger drumming and confident guitar work partnered
with ambient sythns. Audience members waited patiently for the resonating
last note of each song before simultaneously applauding. It was almost
as if the hearts, minds and ears were perfectly attuned to their music.
Elysian Fields perform harmonious love songs that are sensual rather than
sexual. They have established a new level of elegance that can only be
matched by the classic love composers Burt Bacharach and Serge Gainsbourg.
Seductive, soothing and stunning sounds from an incredible group of musicians.
Once you've heard their music you'll be transported to a dreamy soundscape
full of love, intrigue and charm. Elysian Fields new album "Dreams
That Breathe Your Name" is now available from The
Orchard. |
